Sea Kayaking, Overnight Trip in
Johnstone Strait $400 CDN per person, taxes
included
This
Overnighter tour is ideal for those who want an opportunity
to view and kayak with orcas and other wildlife but do not
have the time for a longer tour.
The trip begins with familiarization of our equipment, our
safety talk and then paddling to the orcas summer range. We
use stable double and single kayaks that are ideal for beginners.
It does not take long to master the basics and we will begin
our journey. Your guide will choose a route that will give
you the best chances of seeing orcas and other wildlife. You
can expect to spend a minimum of 6 to 8 hours on the water
with breaks for lunch and shore exploration. Some of our time
on the water may be spent floating as wildlife comes to us
or we are exploring the inter-tidal life in the shallows.
In the evening we will set up camp and prepare a barbequed
salmon dinner for your enjoyment.
After breakfast you and your guide will paddle back to Telegraph
Cove; returning at approximately 12 noon.
In high season your chances of seeing orcas while kayaking
or from camp are very good but they are wild animals and they
do not always conform to our plans. Even without the orcas
we have opportunities to see humpback and Minke whales, Dall's
porpoises, pacific white sided dolphins, seals, sea lions
and a wide variety of sea birds and inter-tidal life.
High
Season: Mid July to September is the most reliable viewing
time for Orca.
To
increase your odds of seeing Orcas we highly suggest you consider
a longer tour.
