Sited on beautiful Neroutsos Inlet, lovely Port Alice is one
of Vancouver Island North's gateways to the Wild West coast.
Port Alice's natural setting offers the visitor a diversity
of recreation: boating, fishing, mountain biking, swimming,
camping and hiking at Link River campsite. Victoria Lake,
O'Connor Lake, Marble River Park, Alice Lake and Mahatta River.
Try Rupert Arm Recreation Area for some fine saltwater fishing
and crabbing. Bear Falls Trail is an easy day's hike or mountain
biking expedition.
Port Alice is the
prime driving/hiking route to fascinating karst formation
- Devil's Bath, Eternal Fountain and Vanishing River. Port
Alice is also a favourite spot for sea kayaking - through
Neroutsos Inlet to Quatsino Sound and the open Pacific.
There's wildlife
viewing everywhere including black bears and an extraordinary
population of bald eagles and other sea and forest birds.
For the golfer,
Port Alice offers one nine-hole golf course (the first tee
is straight up a hillside) and a 9 or 18 hole scenic
and challenging course.
Port Alice pulp
mill is currently closed. It is the oldest in British Columbia
(1917).
The area also has two first class
salmon hatcheries located at the head of Neroutsos Inlet and
at Marble River; tours are also offered.
