Port Hardy, Where the Road Ends & Adventure Begins
Port Hardy is the northern most community on Vancouver Island
and a hub of commerce and tourism. It is the air, highway
and ferry terminus for all points north and south. Hardy Bay
bustles with activity - log booms, fish processing plants,
commercial and pleasure vessels. An active network of eco-tourism
and adventure operators provide visitors with a wide variety
of experiences in the untamed wilderness: Boat tours, Salt
and Fresh water Fishing, Air tours First Nations Cultural
tours, Diving charters, Kayaking, Whale watching, Wildlife
viewing, Birding and more. In town you can stroll along the
banner lined Market Street and shop for First Nations Cultural
art, jewellery and carved pieces and works by other local
artists and artisans. Gaze at the majestic Coast Mountains
from the Kinsmen Park. Watch beautiful species of waterfowl
from viewing stands at the Quaste River estuary. You can visit
nearby Fort Rupert, a renowned and ancient Kwakiult
village preserving the Aboriginal way of life in its art,
culture and legends.
